01 · The lid

Crystal and bezel

The sapphire crystal lifts away first. It is synthetic corundum, second only to diamond in hardness, so keys and desk edges leave no mark.

The polished bezel holds it in a gasket and frames the dial.

02 · The face

Dial and hands

The baton hands are skeletonised, cut open down their length so they never hide the movement beneath.

The cream dial has a matte finish stamped with a fine grid, and carries applied rose-gold Roman numerals, with the watchmaker's IIII at four. Its centre is open, so the dial is a frame rather than a lid.

03 · The engine

The movement

Under the dial sits an openworked mainplate, cut back to three spokes. Its gold gear train runs from the mainspring barrel through the centre, third and fourth wheels to the escapement.

Energy starts in the mainspring, coiled inside the barrel. At the far end, the balance wheel and its hair-thin spring swing eight times a second, and each swing lets the escape wheel advance one tooth.

04 · The architecture

Bridges and rotor

Bridges cap the wheel arbors. Each pivot turns in a synthetic ruby jewel to cut friction, and the plates carry Côtes de Genève striping and blued screws.

The rhodium-plated rotor pivots with your wrist and winds the mainspring, so the watch never needs a battery.

05 · The seal

Caseback and strap

A solid, screw-down rose-gold caseback seals the case to 100 m. The movement only shows from the front, through the open dial.

The olive alligator strap is glazed to a high shine and saddle-stitched tone on tone. It tapers from 20 mm at the lugs to 16 mm at the buckle.

07 · Complete

Face to face

Every part returns to its place. Seen straight on, the dial reads as it was drawn: the pegasus under XII, and the balance wheel beating eight times a second in the aperture where VI would be.
